Tyre Management Enhanced with New Handheld Scanner in the UK

October 31, 2024

AES UK (Automotive Equipment Solutions) has launched a new handheld tyre scanner, designed to help commercial vehicle operators, workshops, and tyre retailers quickly and precisely measure tyre tread depth.

The TreadReader™ HD (Heavy Duty) is a compact and easy-to-use tool that delivers full-width tread depth analysis, producing detailed scans of each tyre with a precision of up to 0.2mm.

When paired with the cloud-based management app, TreadManager™, the scanner calculates tread depth and presents 3D colour-coded visuals of tyre conditions, including tread warnings and safety alerts such as under-inflation or wheel alignment recommendations. TreadManager also integrates with workshop management systems via API access.

“This is a breakthrough tool for tyre management across HGV, PSV, and LCV fleets,” says Tom Coad, Director of AES UK. “The dedicated iOS and Android apps for commercial vehicles allow each tyre to be scanned in just 20 seconds, with all data stored in the cloud for printing and DVSA checks.“

Coad adds that TreadReader HD not only speeds up routine vehicle maintenance but also prevents tyre failures. Its accuracy and simplicity also support wheel alignment checks, making it an affordable solution for workshops to offer alignment services.

“Uneven tyre wear often indicates misaligned wheels,” explains Coad. “This device identifies safety concerns, suggests tyre replacements when needed, and gives early warnings about wheel alignment issues. Workshops can take immediate corrective actions based on the collected data.”

AES UK highlights that the TreadReader HD scanner delivers reliable readings even in less-than-ideal conditions, such as wet or dirty tyres, making it a valuable tool for workshops, service centres, MOT lanes, depots, and mobile inspections.

“TreadReader HD significantly outperforms traditional dip gauges and non-contact laser pointers,” says Coad. “It operates with a free-to-use app, providing fast and accurate results, and allowing service managers to monitor multiple vehicle reports and technician activity.”

Founded in 2005, AES UK is the first UK distributor of TreadReader HD and the exclusive distributor of JOSAM®, offering commercial vehicle alignment and CV workshop equipment, including on-site training, servicing, and calibration for operators throughout the UK.
