TreadReader Drives Productivity and Safety at National Car Dealer

Big Motoring World, a leading independent used car dealership in the UK, has enhanced productivity and efficiency at its Peterborough preparation centre with the TreadReader™ DriveOver ramp system.

After investing £14 million in the facility to support its rapidly growing dealership network, the company now operates a full production line, including 70 ramps for maintenance and inspection, and 15 MOT bays for pre-delivery checks.

“We prepare over 200 cars each day,” says Bob Ruprah, Operations Director. “The TreadReader DriveOver ramps have transformed how we gather fast, accurate tyre tread readings.”

Four TreadReader DriveOver ramps have been installed: three during initial preparation and one for final checks, ensuring all tyre data is captured and automatically recorded in each vehicle’s digital log.

The system’s pressure-sensitive surface collects tyre data, which is sent directly to the parts department so tyres can be ordered before the vehicle reaches the finishing bay.

Tyre tread details are also shared online, allowing potential customers to view each vehicle’s exact tyre condition.

“This is about speed and precision,” Ruprah explains. “We have a one-hour window to record each tyre’s condition, place orders, and prepare for fitting before the car enters the workshop.“

Before implementing the ramps, the process was manual, prone to human error, and slow. Now, the system instantly scans tread depths and places orders with perfect accuracy, thanks to its API integration.
